Emmer Khapli wheat is found in Middle Eastern sites from 9500B.C. Emmer is spread across the ancient world, reaching the Indus Valley around 7000-5000 B.C. It is speculated that Emmer wheat came to Kashmir from the Middle East through Persia and Afghanistan and in South India from North-Eastern Africa. It is husked wheat with 2 seeds inside the husk. The variety is known for its drought and pest resilient variety and needs less irrigation.
